About Us
Who is Grandmaster Ip Chun?
Grandmaster Ip Chun is the head of our Association and is also the eldest son of the late Grandmaster Ip Man who taught the likes of Bruce Lee, Wong Shun Leung, Chow Tze Chun, Moy Yat, Ip Ching (Ip Man's Youngest son), and others.
Grandmaster Ip Chun's knowledge in Wing Chun is undisputed by any masters in this or other fields. Grandmaster Ip Chun's students can be found worldwide, and he also has approximately 300 students in Hong Kong . Yet he remains humble and is always open to deep discussions.
If you are fortunate enough to meet Grandmaster Ip Chun you will see a man of small stature and an outlook of a scholar. You would not assume he was a martial arts teacher. The Grandmaster is now in his eighties and is still actively teaching and ‘crossing hands' with his students.
Who is Sifu Kwok Cheung?
Sifu Kwok Cheung is a student of Grandmaster Ip Chun, who is appointed to be the Chief Instructor of UK South Region Wing Chun Association after recognising his achievements, correct attitude, and loyalty to the art of Wing Chun. He also visits Hong Kong at least twice a year to train with Grandmaster Ip Chun, and his fellow Si Hings (senior class mates).
Sifu Kwok has also been honoured with recognition with a place on the Wing Chun Family Tree and is featured in the Ip Man Tong Museum, Foshan, China.
Who is instructor John Cheung?
John Cheung trained in Fencing before moving onto Wing Chun in the year 2001 when he joined a local club. After three years of research he felt that he learnt all that he could from this club and decided that he must uproot to find more answers. After many months of searching,he came across Sifu Kwok Cheung (no relation) teaching in Southend-on-Sea. After the initial contact , Sifu Kwok Cheung later welcomed John at his school in 2004. John continues to study with Sifu Kwok Cheung and has had opportunities to also meet and train with Grandmaster Ip Chun and his close students. 8 years later, john is still Sifu Kwok's dedicated pupil(T'dow Dae).
" At the time, I didn't know Sifu Kwok Cheung is the Chief instructor of UK SOUTH REGION WING CHUN ASSOCIATION, I just like the way he teach : very detail explanation of the art. Through him and my classmates I have found most of my answers and had experiences that are most memorable. I feel that my training has been hard, but at the same time very fulfilling. I have learnt many things besides the physical attributes of Wing Chun. I have gained personal attributes such as confidence, self-discipline, and a sense of direction to succeed. During this time, I also had the opportunities to go to China and Hong Kong to further the art of Wing Chun as well as Tai Chi ; it was a very rewarding trip. In addition, I have been teaching few of my students over the last few years and continue to do so on a regular basis. Now, it gives me a great honour that I have been given this opportunity to share with you my experiences and knowledge. Like my Sifu, my aim is to keep a high level of teaching standard and a correct martial attitude. I will match any student who is willing to work hard, and guide and encourage those who sometimes feel lost." ~ John Cheung, 2012.
